Holistic Education: Principles, Perspectives, and Practices traces its roots to a remarkable meeting of holistic educators in Chicago in 1990, where the current state of American education was examined and a united call for action, "The Chicago Statement," was adopted. This statement led to the establishment of GATE (the Global Alliance for Transforming Education) and a 1991 conference in Colorado that produced Education 2000: A Holistic Perspective. An eloquent statement of what education could -- and should -- be, Education 2000 also sketched some of the linkages and applications implicit in holistic theory.
This book is a continuation and expansion of the vital work of educational renewal.
